What Is Domestic Violence?
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological, or technological actions or threats of actions or other patterns of coercive behavior that influence another person within an intimate partner relationship. This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone.
Speaker
Attorney Michael Harrington
Michael graduated high school when MTV still showed videos. After a trial run with college, Michael joined the US Air Force and had a great time traveling the world, fixing awesome airplanes and saluting random people. Michael then attended the Bryan School of Business at the UNC- Greensboro, where he got his BS, double majoring in Information and Operations Management and International Business and a minor in Economics, following that with the Charleston School of Law. He graduated, passed the bar, and became a father in 2011– a busy year. Michael has since practiced extensively in family law, Veterans’ issues, landlord-tenant law, construction law, corporate contracts and employment law.
He is admitted to the South Carolina Bar and the US Supreme Court Bar, is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association and is accredited to practice before the Department of Veterans Affairs.
In his rare down time he has hiked the path of the Battle of the Bulge, climbed Mt. Fuji, and driven at speed on Virginia International Raceway and the Nurburgring Nordschleife. He has called the Charleston area home on and off since 1995 with brief stints in North Carolina and Japan, and currently lives in Dorchester County with his wife and daughter.
